D.I.Y. SPC FLOORING INSTALLATION: PREPARATION

Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) Flooring, hybrid flooring, hybrid Vinyl flooring, hybrid laminate flooring, hybrid multilayer flooring, fusion hybrid flooring, hybrid waterproof flooring & hybrid rigid core flooring are some common terms you may have come across if you’ve been in the market for flooring. Essential they are referring to the same thing, hybrid flooring.

At Timber Flooring Clearance Centre, we mostly stock SPC hybrid flooring. SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) hybrid flooring, also known as Rigid Vinyl Plank flooring, consists of multiple layers, a UV coat, a print layer, a SPC core (limestone core), and a balanced layer.

SPC hybrid floors create minimal noise when walked on and is completely waterproof, as is all our hybrid flooring.

You can read more about hybrid flooring on our dedicated blog post here.

This article explores some very important things to consider when preparing to install your own SPC hybrid flooring.

1. MEASURE YOUR PROJECT AREA

The very first thing you’d want to do, for any flooring installation, is to measure up the space you’re working with and always allow for some wastage. Timber Flooring Clearance Centre offers a very handy coverage calculator on all product detail pages for our floors. You can view our available hybrid flooring here.

Once you’ve measured your project area, either head in-store or visit us online to purchase your SPC flooring.

2. GATHER YOUR TOOLS

Once you’ve measured your SPC flooring installation area, it’s time to gather the tools you would typically require for the job:

  • Tape Measure
  • Chalk
  • Power Saw
  • Scotch Tape
  • Rubber Mallet
  • Safety Glass
  • Utility Knife

Other tools may be required, dependant on your project, such as stair noses, trims or caulk.

3. PREPARE YOUR AREA AND SUBFLOOR

It is often at this stage where inexperienced D.I.Y’ers falter when it comes to SPC flooring installation. We cannot stress enough how important it is for you to clear out all your existing furniture and ensure that your subfloor is free of imperfections, dry and level.

We’ve had our team shoot a few videos below which show common tasks which MUST be considered especially if you want to ensure your floors are fully covered under warranty.

Click on the appropriate video for a sneak peek of our installation team in action, undercutting door jambs, checking subfloor level evenness and even a demonstration of the disaster a non-level subfloor causes to your flooring when walked on.

All flooring installation carried out by the Timber Flooring Clearance Centre team comes covered with our installation warranty and any DIY work is evaluated by our professional team should any warranty claims arise.

4. INSTALL YOUR SPC FLOORING
